Mar. 2nd, 2010 @ 10:54 am Garden update
the plum is in full bloom
the apples seem to be budding but I think they're still in shock from being planted
the figs are trying to bud but they may have been killed by the frosts, still waiting to be sure
the birch is budding but I need to retie the stakes; I spiralled it and it's going to cut a hole in the bark
the roses are putting out shoots with leaves
the flowers are putting up sprouts
the carrots show no signs of life yet
the vinca minor is hanging on, hopefully it will take over under the evergreens
the mint died back all the way to the ground during the freezes but it's coming back
the rosemary looks like it made it through the winter
most of the lavender is fine except the mexican lavender, which seems to have died
the jasmine needs to be planted in the ground somewhere; it has yellow spots on the leaves, nitrogen overdose?

Feb. 17th, 2010 @ 12:37 pm A partial list of things that annoy me
1. People who use DIAF (Die In A Fire) when describing a minor annoyance. It's overkill, and it seems to be very common in several LJ communities I read.

2. People who say lol (laughs out loud) when describing a minor annoyance or to appear self-deprecating. I see this usage of lol infrequently because I usually stop reading journals/blogs once I see it.

3. People who do not use turn signals on the road.

4. Self righteous blowhards and people who are really really narcissistic AND selfish.

5. Food that goes bad in the fridge.

6. Having to scrape frost off the windshield.

7. People who don't appreciate how awesome Brian is.

8. People who accelerate into red lights. It's a waste of gas, and it totally bothers me on general principles. You're going to have to stop, WHY are you accelerating? You should be coasting.

9. The trend on Wikipedia toward deleting everything that doesn't fit into more and more narrowly defined "notability" guidelines. I find this particularly annoying in areas such as Geographical, RPG, and Indigenous Peoples entries that may rely more on oral traditions and word of mouth than published peer reviewed so-called "reliable third party" sources.
